Virtues and benefits of Surah At-Tahrim

Surah 66 12 verses Medinan

No authentic hadith attributes a specific virtue to it; Surah At-Tahrim belongs to the Mufassal by which the Prophet ﷺ was favoured over the other prophets. It calls for building homes on respect for Allah’s limits and on seeking His pleasure, for protecting oneself and one’s family from the Fire, and for sincere repentance.

About Surah At-Tahrim

At-Tahrim is an entirely Medinan surah, also called “Lima tuharrimu” and “the surah of the Prophet” ﷺ. It has twelve verses, was revealed after Al-Hujurat and before Al-Jumu’ah (105th in order of revelation) and is the 66th in the Qur’an. Al-Bukhari and Muslim report from Aishah that the Prophet ﷺ used to drink honey at the house of Zaynab bint Jahsh and swore not to take it again, upon which its opening verses were revealed. Al-Qurtubi and Ibn Kathir hold that the prohibition concerned the honey.
