Tafsir of verse 42
Al-Mukhtasar
So when the queen of Sheba came to Solomon, it was said to her to test her: “Is this how your throne is?” She answered according to the question: “It is as though it was that”. Allah has granted us knowledge before her and we were submitting to Allah’s order and obeying Him.
So when she came, she was asked, “Is your throne like this?” She said, “It looks as if it is the same. We were given knowledge beforehand11, and have submitted [to Allah].”
Notes
[11] Because he had refused our tribute sent to him, or we had known about his kingdom and authority before seeing this sign of bringing the throne from this long distance. Or "We were given knowledge beforehand" was Prophet Solomon’s statement, which means: We were given knowledge beforehand that she will come submitting to Allah, and we were submissive and obedient to Allah Almighty.
So when she came, it was said (to her): "Is your throne like this?" She said: "(It is) as though it were the very same." And [Sulaimân (Solomon) said]: "Knowledge was bestowed on us before her, and we were submitted to Allâh (in Islâm as Muslims before her)."
So, when she came, it was said (unto her): Is thy throne like this? She said: (It is) as though it were the very one. And (Solomon said): We were given the knowledge before her and we had surrendered (to Allah).
So when she arrived, she was asked, "Is this thy throne?" She said, "It was just like this; and knowledge was bestowed on us in advance of this, and we have submitted to Allah (in Islam)."
So when she came, it was said: Is your throne like this? She said: It is as it were the same, and we were given the knowledge before it, and we were submissive.
So, as soon as she came, it was said, "Is your throne just like this?" She said, " (It is) as though it were the (very) one." And (Sulayman) (Solomon) said, "We were brought the knowledge before her, and we were Muslims." (i.e., we surrendered "to Allah").
