About Surah Al-Masad
Surah Al-Masad, also called “Tabbat”, “Abu Lahab” and “Al-Lahab”, is among the first surahs revealed in Mecca: sixth in the order of revelation, after Al-Fatihah and before Al-Kawthar, it has five verses. According to a report by Al-Bukhari from Ibn Abbas, the Prophet ﷺ climbed a hill, called out to Quraysh and said: “I am a warner to you ahead of a severe punishment.” Abu Lahab replied: “May you perish! Is it for this that you gathered us?” Allah then revealed this surah.
