Tafsir of verse 53

Al-Mukhtasar

Say, O Messenger, to my believing servants: that they should say good words when speaking and refrain from bad off-putting words, because the satan exploits them to spread between them what will spoil their worldly life and their Hearafter. Surely, the satan is an open enemy, so it is necessary to be wary of him.

Other translations of verse 53

Tell My slaves that they should say what is best46, for Satan sows discord among them. Indeed, Satan is a sworn enemy to mankind.

Notes

[46] i.e., they should be considerate and kind, well-spoken, and tolerant to win hearts.

And say to My slaves (i.e. the true believers of Islâmic Monotheism) that they should (only) say those words that are the best. (Because) Shaitân (Satan) verily, sows a state of conflict and disagreements among them. Surely, Shaitân (Satan) is to man a plain enemy.

Tell My bondmen to speak that which is kindlier. Lo! the devil soweth discord among them. Lo! the devil is for man an open foe.

Say to My servants that they should (only) say those things that are best: for Satan doth sow dissensions among them: For Satan is to man an avowed enemy.

And say to My servants (that) they speak that which is best; surely the Shaitan sows dissensions among them; surely the Shaitan is an open enemy to man.

And say to My bondmen (that) they say that which is fairest, (i.e., which is kindest) (for) surely Ash-Shaytan (The all-vicious, i.e., the Devil) incites (discord) between them. Surely Ash-Shaytan has been an evident enemy to man.
