As I left the lies in the hearts of those nations, I will leave it as well in the hearts of the Makkahn idolaters, because of their opposition and stubbornness.
This is how We let this [denial] enter the hearts of the wicked7.
[7] For they rebelled against the Truth and did not submit to it.
Thus do We let it (polytheism and disbelief) enter the hearts of the Mujrimûn [criminals, polytheists and pagans (because of their mocking at the Messengers)].
Thus do We make it traverse the hearts of the guilty:
Even so do we let it creep into the hearts of the sinners -
Thus do We make it to enter into the hearts of the guilty;
Thus We insert it (Disbelief) into the hearts of the criminals.
{ كَذَلِكَ نَسْلُكُهُ فِي قُلُوبِ الْمُجْرِمِينَ } قَالَ الشِّرْكُ .
They share a sequence of words with this verse: useful for telling them apart when memorising.
كَذَٰلِكَ سَلَكْنَٰهُ فِى قُلُوبِ ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ
Thus have We inserted it [i.e., disbelief] into the hearts of the criminals.
