The Prophet ﷺ used to recite Surah Al-Ghashiyah in the Friday and Eid prayers after the surah “Glorify the name of your Lord, the Most High”, and when Eid fell on a Friday he recited them in both prayers. A surah of the Mufassal, it recalls the state of people on the Day of Resurrection and invites reflection on the signs of Allah’s power in His creation.
The Prophet ﷺ used to recite in the Friday and Eid prayers “Glorify the name of your Lord, the Most High” and “Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming?”, and when both fell on the same day he recited them in both prayers. It belongs to the Mufassal, given to the Prophet ﷺ as an extra gift by which he was favoured over the other prophets, according to the hadith of Wathilah ibn al-Asqa’: “… and I was favoured with the Mufassal.”

A reminder of the Hereafter and signs of power

About Surah Al-Ghashiyah
Al-Ghashiyah is an entirely Meccan surah, also called “Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming?”; it has twenty-six verses. It is the 88th surah in the order of the Qur’an and the 67th in the order of revelation, revealed after Adh-Dhariyat and before Al-Kahf. “Al-Ghashiyah” (the Overwhelming) is the Day of Resurrection, so called because it overwhelms people with its terrors.
