يَاسِر
Boy Arabic origin Yāsir
Companion“Easy, accommodating”, the one who makes things easy
Yasir ibn ʿAmir, who came from Yemen and settled in Mecca, was one of the very first Muslims, together with his wife Sumayya and their son ʿAmmar. The Quraysh tortured the family because of its faith: Sumayya died at their hands, the first martyr of Islam, and Yasir also died in Mecca as a result of this persecution.
Yasir is the active participle of yasara, “to be easy, to be gentle and accommodating”, from the root y-s-r of ease (yusr), the opposite of hardship (ʿusr). The classical dictionaries give yasir for an easy-going, conciliatory man; they also note that before Islam the word meant the one who shared out the meat in the game of chance called maysir, a sense now forgotten. The Quran uses the root in “With hardship comes ease” (94:5-6).
The name Yasir does not appear as such in the Quran, but its root (ي س ر) occurs 44 times. Examples:
فَإِنَّ مَعَ ٱلْعُسْرِ يُسْرًا ٥
For indeed, with hardship [will be] ease [i.e., relief].
إِنَّ مَعَ ٱلْعُسْرِ يُسْرًا ٦
Indeed, with hardship [will be] ease.

The month of Ramaḍān [is that] in which was revealed the Qur’ān, a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion. So whoever sights [the crescent of] the month, let him fast it; and whoever is ill or on a journey - then an equal number of other days. Allāh intends for you ease and does not intend for you hardship and [wants] for you to complete the period and to glorify Allāh for that [to] which He has guided you; and perhaps you will be grateful.
