Saqer: meaning of the name
Boy Arabic origin Ṣaqr
“The falcon”, a bird of prey trained for hunting
Meaning of the name Saqer
Saqr means the falcon and, more broadly, any bird of prey trained for hunting; the word passed into English as saker, the name of a falcon. Falconry being a very old art in Arabia, the name evokes alertness, keen sight and pride; it is widely borne in the Emirates and the Gulf. Chroniclers relate that the Abbasid caliph al-Mansur called his rival ʿAbd al-Rahman al-Dakhil, founder of the emirate of Córdoba, “the falcon of Quraysh” (Saqr Quraysh).
