The Prophet ﷺ said: “The most beloved of your names to Allah are ʿAbd Allah and ʿAbd al-Rahman” (Muslim 2132), and scholars add to them all names formed on a name of Allah. The name al-Qawiyy occurs 9 times in the Quran; its page in the 99 Names section gives its meaning and verses.
ʿAbd al-Qawiyy joins ʿabd with al-Qawiyy, from the root q-w-y of strength: the One whose power is perfect and whom nothing tires. The Quran often joins it with al-ʿAziz: “Allah is Strong, Mighty” (22:40). A rare name, mostly given in Egypt and Yemen.
[Theirs is] like the custom of the people of Pharaoh and of those before them. They disbelieved in the signs of Allāh, so Allāh seized them for their sins. Indeed, Allāh is Powerful and severe in penalty.
So when Our command came, We saved Ṣāliḥ and those who believed with him, by mercy from Us, and [saved them] from the disgrace of that day. Indeed, it is your Lord who is the Powerful, the Exalted in Might.
