The Prophet ﷺ said: “The most beloved of your names to Allah are ʿAbd Allah and ʿAbd al-Rahman” (Muslim 2132), and scholars add to them all names formed on a name of Allah. The name al-Malik occurs 5 times in the Quran; its page in the 99 Names section gives its meaning and verses.
ʿAbd al-Malik joins ʿabd with al-Malik, from the root m-l-k of kingship and possession: the true King, to whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. It was borne by the Umayyad caliph ʿAbd al-Malik ibn Marwan, who had the Dome of the Rock built in Jerusalem. It is written Abdelmalek in the Maghreb and Abdülmelik in Turkey.
He is Allāh, other than whom there is no deity, the Sovereign, the Pure, the Perfection, the Grantor of Security, the Overseer, the Exalted in Might, the Compeller, the Superior. Exalted is Allāh above whatever they associate with Him.
So high [above all] is Allāh, the Sovereign, the Truth. And, [O Muḥammad], do not hasten with [recitation of] the Qur’ān before its revelation is completed to you, and say, "My Lord, increase me in knowledge."
