عَبْد الْبَاقِي
Boy Arabic origin ʿAbd al-Bāqī
Name of Allah“Servant of the Everlasting”
The Prophet ﷺ said: “The most beloved of your names to Allah are ʿAbd Allah and ʿAbd al-Rahman” (Muslim 2132), and scholars add to them all names formed on a name of Allah. Al-Baqi is in the list of 99 names reported by al-Tirmidhi; the Quran says: “Everything on earth will perish, and only the face of your Lord remains” (55:26-27).
ʿAbd al-Baqi joins ʿabd with al-Baqi, from the root b-q-y of permanence: the One who remains forever when everything else passes away. The Egyptian scholar Muhammad Fuʾad ʿAbd al-Baqi, author of the index of Quranic words (al-Muʿjam al-mufahras), bore this name. In Turkey, Bâkî was the pen name of a great Ottoman poet.
This name is built on a name of Allah found in the Quran; its verses are on the page of that name.
