حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ كَثِيرِ بْنِ شِنْظِيرٍ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ أَبِي رَبَاحٍ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏

"‏ خَمِّرُوا الآنِيَةَ وَأَوْكُوا الأَسْقِيَةَ وَأَجِيفُوا الأَبْوَابَ وَأَطْفِئُوا الْمَصَابِيحَ فَإِنَّ الْفُوَيْسِقَةَ رُبَّمَا جَرَّتِ الْفَتِيلَةَ فَأَحْرَقَتْ أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ ‏"

Narrated Jabir bin 'Abdullah:

that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Cover the vessels, tie the water-skins, close the doors, extinguish the torches, for indeed the mischief-makers (vermin) may drag away the wick, causing a fire for the inhabitants of the house."

Al-Mubarakfuri — Tuhfat al-Ahwadhi

قَوْلُهُ : ( عَنْ كَثِيرِ بْنِ شِنْظِيرٍ ) بِكَسْرِ مُعْجَمَةٍ وَسُكُونِ نُونٍ وَكَسْرِ ظَاءٍ مُعْجَمَةٍ وَسُكُونِ تَحْتِيَّةٍ وَبِرَاءٍ , الْمَازِنِيِّ هُوَ أَبُو قُرَّةَ الْبَصْرِيُّ صَدُوقٌ يُخْطِئُ مِنْ السَّادِسَةِ. قَوْلُهُ : ( خَمِّرُوا الْآنِيَّةَ ) بِفَتْحِ مُعْجَمَةٍ وَتَشْدِيدِ مِيمٍ أَيْ غَطُّوهَا , وَفِي رِوَايَةٍ لِمُسْلِمٍ : " وَخَمِّرُوا آنِيَّتَكُمْ وَاذْكُرُوا اِسْمَ اللَّهِ وَلَوْ أَنْ تَعْرِضُوا عَلَيْهَا شَيْئًا " " وَأَوْكُوا " بِفَتْحِ الْهَمْزَةِ وَضَمِّ الْكَافِ مِنْ الْإِيكَاءِ ( الْأَسْقِيَةَ ) جَمْعُ السِّقَاءِ بِكَسْرِ السِّينِ , أَيْ شُدُّوا وَارْبِطُوا رَأْسَ السِّقَاءِ بِالْوِكَاءِ , وَهُوَ مَا يُشَدُّ بِهِ فَمُ الْقِرْبَةِ , وَزَادَ مُسْلِمٌ " وَاذْكُرُوا اِس…

Authentic Sahih al-Bukhari 6295

Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "(At bedtime) cover the utensils, close the doors, and put out the lights, lest the evil creature (the rat) should pull away the wick and thus burn the people of the house."

خَمِّرُوا الآنِيَةَ وَأَجِيفُوا الأَبْوَابَ، وَأَطْفِئُوا الْمَصَابِيحَ، فَإِنَّ الْفُوَيْسِقَةَ رُبَّمَا جَرَّتِ الْفَتِيلَةَ فَأَحْرَقَتْ أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ ‏"

Allah s Apostle said, "When you intend going to bed at night, put out the lights, close the doors, tie the mouths of the water skins, and cover your food and drinks." Hamrnam said, "I think he (the other narrator) added, 'even with piece of wood across the utensil.'

أَطْفِئُوا الْمَصَابِيحَ بِاللَّيْلِ إِذَا رَقَدْتُمْ، وَغَلِّقُوا الأَبْوَابَ، وَأَوْكُوا الأَسْقِيَةَ، وَخَمِّرُوا الطَّعَامَ وَالشَّرَابَ ‏"

Authentic Sunan Abu Dawud 3732

Jabir b.’Abd Allah reported the Prophet (ﷺ)as saying this version is not complete ‘’for the devil does not open a shut door, or loosen a water-skin, or uncover a vessel, for a mouse sets a house on fire over its inhabitants’’.
