أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ زُرَيْعٍ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ، ح وَأَنْبَأَنَا مُؤَمَّلُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو الْقَاسِمِ صلى الله عليه وسلم

‏"‏ وَيْلٌ لِلْعَقِبِ مِنَ النَّارِ ‏"

It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said:

"Abu Al-Qasim the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'Woe to the heels from the Fire.'"

Al-Sindi — Hashiyat al-Sindi on Sunan al-Nasa'i

قَوْله ( وَيْل لِلْعَقِبِ ) بِفَتْحِ عَيْن فَكَسْر قَاف مُؤَخَّر الْقَدَم وَالْأَعْقَاب جَمْعهَا وَالْمَعْنَى وَيْل لِصَاحِبِ الْعَقِب الْمُقَصِّر فِي غُسْلهَا نَحْو وَاسْأَلْ الْقَرْيَة أَوْ الْعَقِب تَخْتَصّ بِالْعَذَابِ إِذَا قَصَّرَ فِي غُسْلهَا وَالْحَدِيث الثَّانِي يُوَضِّح الْمَعْنَى وَالْمُرَاد بِالْعَقِبِ الْجِنْس وَالْجَمْع فِي الْحَدِيث الثَّانِي لِأَنَّهُ جَاءَ فِي قَوْم تَسَامَحُوا فِي غَسْل الرِّجْلَيْنِ وَلَا حَاجَة إِلَى حَمْل الْجَمْع عَلَى مَعْنَى التَّثْنِيَة وَالْمُرَاد وَيْل لِأَعْقَابِهِمْ أَوْ أَعْقَاب مَنْ يَصْنَع صَنِيعهمْ.…

I and 'Abd al-Rahman b. Abu Bakr went out (in order to join) the funeral procession of Sa'd b. Abi Waqqas and passed by the door of the residence of 'A'isha, and then he transmitted a hadith like this from her who (narrated it) from the Prophet (ﷺ).

The Prophet (ﷺ) remained behind us on a journey. He joined us while we were performing ablution for the `Asr prayer which was overdue and we were just passing wet hands over our feet (not washing them thoroughly) so he addressed us in a loud voice saying twice , "Save your heels from the fire."
