Narrator:Jābir ibn ‘Abdullāh

حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ الْعَنْبَرِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُنْكَدِرِ، قَالَ رَأَيْتُ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ يَحْلِفُ بِاللَّهِ أَنَّ ابْنَ صَائِدٍ الدَّجَّالُ، فَقُلْتُ أَتَحْلِفُ بِاللَّهِ قَالَ إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ عُمَرَ

يَحْلِفُ عَلَى ذَلِكَ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَلَمْ يُنْكِرْهُ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏.‏

'Muhammad b. Munkadir reported:

As I saw Jabir b. 'Abdullah taking an oath in the name of Allah that it was Ibn Sa'id who was the Dajjal I said: Do you take an oath in the name of Allah? Thereupon he said: I heard 'Umar taking an oath in the presence of Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) to this effect but Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) did not disapprove of it.

An-Nawawi — Sharh Sahih Muslim

قَوْله : ( إِنَّ عُمَر رَضِيَ اللَّه عَنْهُ حَلَفَ بِحَضْرَةِ النَّبِيّ صَلَّى اللَّه عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّ اِبْن صَيَّاد هُوَ الدَّجَّال ) اِسْتَدَلَّ بِهِ جَمَاعَة عَلَى جَوَاز الْيَمِين بِالظَّنِّ , وَأَنَّهُ لَا يُشْتَرَط فِيهَا الْيَقِين , وَهَذَا مُتَّفَق عَلَيْهِ عِنْد أَصْحَابنَا , حَتَّى لَوْ رَأَى بِخَطِّ أَبِيهِ الْمَيِّت أَنَّ لَهُ عِنْد زَيْد كَذَا , وَغَلَبَ عَلَى ظَنّه أَنَّهُ خَطّه , وَلَمْ يَتَيَقَّن , جَازَ الْحَلِف عَلَى اِسْتِحْقَاقه.…

I saw Jabir bin `Abdullah swearing by Allah that Ibn Sayyad was the Dajjal. I said to Jabir, "How can you swear by Allah?" Jabir said, "I have heard `Umar swearing by Allah regarding this matter in the presence of the Prophet (ﷺ) and the Prophet (ﷺ) did not disapprove of it."

إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ عُمَرَ يَحْلِفُ عَلَى ذَلِكَ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَلَمْ يُنْكِرْهُ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم‏.‏

You swear by Allah! He said: I heard Umar swearing to that in the presence of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), but the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) did not make any objection to it.

إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ عُمَرَ يَحْلِفُ عَلَى ذَلِكَ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَلَمْ يُنْكِرْهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏.‏

Muhammad b. al-Munkadir told that he saw Jabir b. `Abdallah swearing by God that Ibn as-Sayyad was the dajjal, and when he expressed surprise that he should, swear by God, he replied that he had heard `Umar swearing to that in the Prophet's presence without the Prophet making any objection to it…
