Narrator:Jābir ibn ‘Abdullāh

حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ مُعَاذٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُنْكَدِرِ، قَالَ رَأَيْتُ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ يَحْلِفُ بِاللَّهِ أَنَّ ابْنَ صَائِدٍ الدَّجَّالُ، فَقُلْتُ تَحْلِفُ بِاللَّهِ فَقَالَ

إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ عُمَرَ يَحْلِفُ عَلَى ذَلِكَ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَلَمْ يُنْكِرْهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏.‏

Muhammad ibn al-Munkadir told that he saw Jabir ibn Abdullah swearing by Allah that Ibn as-Sa'id was the Dajjal (Antichrist). I expressed my surprise by saying:

You swear by Allah! He said: I heard Umar swearing to that in the presence of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), but the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) did not make any objection to it.

Reported by Abu Dawud (No. 4331), Al-Bukhari (No. 7355) and Muslim (No. 2929).

Al-Azimabadi — Awn al-Ma'bud

( أَنَّ اِبْن الصَّيَّاد الدَّجَّال ) : أَيْ أَنَّ اِبْن الصَّيَّاد هُوَ الدَّجَّال ( فَقُلْت تَحْلِف بِاَللَّهِ ) . أَيْ أَتَحْلِفُ بِاَللَّهِ مَعَ أَنَّهُ أَمْر مَظْنُون غَيْر مَجْزُوم بِهِ ( عَلَى ذَلِكَ ) : أَيْ عَلَى أَنَّ اِبْن الصَّيَّاد الدَّجَّال ( فَلَمْ يُنْكِرهُ رَسُول اللَّه صَلَّى اللَّه عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ) : أَيْ وَلَوْ لَمْ يَكُنْ مَقْطُوعًا لَأَنْكَرَهُ أَيْ وَلَمْ يُجِزْ الْيَمِين عَلَى مَا يَغْلِب بِهِ الظَّنّ لَمَّا سَكَتَ عَنْهُ. قِيلَ لَعَلَّ عُمَر أَرَادَ بِذَلِكَ أَنَّ اِبْن الصَّيَّاد مِنْ الدَّجَّالِينَ الَّذِينَ يَخْرُجُونَ فَيَدَّعُونَ النُّبُوَّة لِأَنَّ النَّبِيّ صَلَّى اللَّه عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ تَرَدَّدَ حَيْثُ قَالَ إِنْ يَكُنْ هُوَ وَإِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ هُوَ ,…

I saw Jabir bin `Abdullah swearing by Allah that Ibn Sayyad was the Dajjal. I said to Jabir, "How can you swear by Allah?" Jabir said, "I have heard `Umar swearing by Allah regarding this matter in the presence of the Prophet (ﷺ) and the Prophet (ﷺ) did not disapprove of it."

إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ عُمَرَ يَحْلِفُ عَلَى ذَلِكَ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَلَمْ يُنْكِرْهُ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم‏.‏
