Chapter: It is recommended to cover vessels, tie up waterskins, close doors and mention the name of Allah over them, extinguish lamps and fires when going to sleep, and keep children and animals in after maghrib

Abu Mūsa al-Ash‘ari (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: One night, a house in Madīnah was burnt with its inhabitants inside. When this was reported to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) he said: “This fire is your enemy, so put it out before going to bed."
Reported by Muslim (No. 2016), Al-Bukhari (No. 6294), Ibn Majah (No. 3770) and Ahmad (No. 18750).
A house in Madīnah was burnt one night, and the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) heard about it. So, he informed people that this fire is their enemy if they do not take precautions against its flames and burning effect. Then, he ordered them to put it out before sleeping so as to avoid its outbreak.
Explanation in Arabic
احترق بيت بالمدينة في الليل، فبلغ ذلك النبيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فأخبرهم بأن هذه النار عدو لأهلها إذا لم يتحرزوا من شر لهيبها وإحراقها، ثم أمرهم -عليه الصلاة والسلام- بإطفائها قبل النوم دفعاً لشرها من الاشتعال والحريق ونحو ذلك.
لزوم إطفاء النار قبل النوم.
حرص رسول الله -صلى الله عليه وسلم- على أمته في أمور الدنيا والآخرة.
يدخل في معنى النار إطفاء قارورات الغاز وقواطع الكهرباء ونحوها، حتى يؤمن شرها من الحريق والاختناق.
