حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا سَلاَّمُ بْنُ أَبِي مُطِيعٍ، عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ مَوْهَبٍ، قَالَ دَخَلْتُ عَلَى أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ‏.‏ قَالَ

فَأَخْرَجَتْ إِلَىَّ شَعَرًا مِنْ شَعَرِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ مَخْضُوبًا بِالْحِنَّاءِ وَالْكَتَمِ ‏.‏

It was narrated that ‘Uthman bin Mawhab said:

“I entered upon Umm Salamah and she brought out for me a hair of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), which was dyed with henna and Katam.”

قَوْله ( مَخْضُوبًا بِالْحِنَّاءِ وَالْكَتَم ) قَدْ جَاءَ أَنَّهُ مَا كَانَ يَخْضِب وَلَمْ يَبْلُغ شَيْبه حَدّ الْخِضَاب وَأُجِيب بِأَنَّهُ لَمْ يخضب الشَّعْر قَصْدًا وَلَكِنْ كَانَ يَغْسِل رَأْسه وَلِحْيَته بِالْحِنَّاءِ وَنَحْوه فَرُبَّمَا يَبْقَى أَثَر ذَلِكَ فِي الشَّعْر.…

“Anas bin Malik was asked: ‘Did the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) dye his hair?’ He said: ‘He did not have any white hair apart from approximately seventeen or twenty hairs at the front of his beard.’”

إِنَّهُ لَمْ يَرَ مِنَ الشَّيْبِ إِلاَّ نَحْوَ سَبْعَةَ عَشَرَ أَوْ عِشْرِينَ شَعَرَةً فِي مُقَدَّمِ لِحْيَتِهِ ‏.‏

Anas b. Malik did not like that a person should pick out his white hair from his head or beard, and Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) did not dye, and there was some whiteness in his hair at his chin, on his temples and very little on his head.
