حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ كَاسِبٍ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَعْنٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، وَعَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الأُمَوِيِّ، عَنْ مَعْنِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنْ حَنْظَلَةَ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ الأَسْلَمِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ أَنَّهُ قَالَ ‏

"‏ الطَّاعِمُ الشَّاكِرُ بِمَنْزِلَةِ الصَّائِمِ الصَّابِرِ ‏"

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Prophet (ﷺ) said:

“A grateful eater is equal to a patient fasting person.”

Reported by Ibn Majah (No. 1764) and At-Tirmidhi (No. 2486).

Al-Sindi — Hashiyat al-Sindi on Sunan Ibn Majah

قَوْله ( الطَّاعِم الشَّاكِر ) أَيْ الَّذِي يَعْرِف قُوَّة ذَلِكَ الطَّعَام فِي طَاعَته تَعَالَى ( بِمَنْزِلَةِ الصَّائِم ) فِي أَنَّ كُلًّا مِنْهُمَا فِي الطَّاعَة الْمَقْصُودَة مِنْ خَلْق الْإِنْسَان فَإِنَّ الْمَقْصُود مِنْ خَلْق الْإِنْسَان الطَّاعَة لَا خُصُوص الصَّوْم وَظَاهِر الْحَدِيث الْآتِي الْمُسَاوَاة فِي الْأَجْر لَكِنْ الظَّاهِر أَنْ يُرَاد فِي أَنَّهُمَا مُتَسَاوِيَانِ فِي أَنَّ كَلَا مِنْهُمَا مَأْجُور.…

Abu Huraira reported God’s messenger as saying, “The one who eats and is grateful is like the one who fasts and shows endurance.” Tirmidhi transmitted it, and Ibn Majah and Darimi transmitted it on the authority of Sinan b. Sanna on his father’s authority.
