Chapter: To protect one's tongue

Authentic hadith of Sahih al-Bukhari Sahih al-Bukhari 6474

Narrator:Sahl ibn Sa‘d

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ الْمُقَدَّمِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، سَمِعَ أَبَا حَازِمٍ، عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ ‏"‏

مَنْ يَضْمَنْ لِي مَا بَيْنَ لَحْيَيْهِ وَمَا بَيْنَ رِجْلَيْهِ أَضْمَنْ لَهُ الْجَنَّةَ ‏"

Sahl ibn Sa‘d (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said:

"Whoever gives me a guarantee to safeguard what is between his jaws and what is between his legs, I will guarantee him Paradise."

Explanation

The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) informs us about two things, which if a Muslim observes, he will enter Paradise.

First: protecting the tongue from saying things that displease Allah Almighty.

Second: preserving the private parts from obscenity.

This is because these two organs are often used in the perpetration of sins.

Lessons

  • Protecting one's tongue and private parts is a means of entering Paradise.
  • He singled out the tongue and the private parts because they are the greatest sources of trials for people in this world and in the Hereafter.

Explanation in Arabic

يُخبِرُ النبيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم عن أمرين إذا التزَمَ المسلمُ بهما فإنه يدخل الجنة:

الأول: حفظ اللسان من التكلم بما يغضب الله تعالى.

والثاني: حفظ الفرج من الوقوع في الفاحشة.

لأن هذين العضوين يكثر وقوع المعاصي بهما.

  • حفظ اللسان والفرج سبيلٌ لدخول الجنة.
  • خُصَّ اللسان والفرج؛ لأنهما أعظم مَصدَر للبلاء على الإنسان في الدنيا والآخرة.

قَوْله ( حَدَّثَنِي ) كَذَا لِأَبِي ذَرّ وَلِلْبَاقِينَ " حَدَّثَنَا " وَكَذَا لِلْجَمِيعِ فِي هَذَا السَّنَد بِعَيْنِهِ فِي الْمُحَارِبِينَ , وَعُمَر بْن عَلِيّ الْمُقَدِّمِيّ بِفَتْحِ الْقَاف وَتَشْدِيد الدَّالّ هُوَ عَمّ مُحَمَّد بْن أَبِي بَكْر الرَّاوِي عَنْهُ , وَقَدْ تَقَدَّمَ أَنَّ عُمَر مُدَلِّس لَكِنَّهُ صَرَّحَ هُنَا بِالسَّمَاعِ. قَوْله ( عَنْ سَهْل بْن سَعْد ) هُوَ السَّاعِدِيُّ. قَوْله ( مَنْ يَضْمَن ) بِفَتْحِ أَوَّله وَسُكُون الضَّاد الْمُعْجَمَة وَالْجَزْم مِنْ الضَّمَان بِمَعْنَى الْوَفَاء بِتَرْكِ الْمَعْصِيَة فَأَطْلَقَ الضَّمَان وَأَرَادَ لَازِمه وَهُوَ أَدَاء الْحَقّ الَّذِي عَلَيْهِ , فَالْمَعْنَى مَنْ أَدَّى الْحَقّ الَّذِي عَلَى لِسَانه مِنْ النُّطْق بِمَا يَجِب عَلَ…
