Narrator:Ibn ‘Abbās

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو النُّعْمَانِ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ ـ هُوَ ابْنُ زَيْدٍ ـ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم

صَلَّى بِالْمَدِينَةِ سَبْعًا وَثَمَانِيًا الظُّهْرَ وَالْعَصْرَ، وَالْمَغْرِبَ وَالْعِشَاءَ‏.‏

Narrated Ibn `Abbas:

"The Prophet (ﷺ) prayed eight rak`at for the Zuhr and `Asr, and seven for the Maghrib and `Isha prayers in Medina." Aiyub said, "Perhaps those were rainy nights." Anas said, "May be."

Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani — Fath al-Bari

قَوْلُهُ ( عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ ) هُوَ أَبُو الشَّعْثَاءِ , وَالْإِسْنَادُ كُلُّهُ بَصْرِيُّونَ. قَوْلُهُ ( سَبْعًا وَثَمَانِيًا ) أَيْ سَبْعًا جَمِيعًا وَثَمَانِيًا جَمِيعًا كَمَا صَرَّحَ بِهِ فِي " بَابِ وَقْتِ الْمَغْرِبِ " مِنْ طَرِيقِ شُعْبَةَ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ. قَوْلُهُ ( فَقَالَ أَيُّوبُ ) هُوَ السَّخْتِيَانِيُّ , وَالْمَقُولُ لَهُ هُوَ أَبُو الشَّعْثَاءِ. قَوْلُهُ ( عَسَى ) أَيْ أَنْ يَكُونَ كَمَا قُلْت , وَاحْتِمَالُ الْمَطَرِ قَالَ بِهِ أَيْضًا مَالِكٌ عَقِبَ إِخْرَاجِهِ لِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ عَنْ اِبْنِ عَبَّاسٍ نَحْوه , وَقَالَ بَدَلَ قَوْلِهِ بِالْمَدِينَةِ " مِنْ غَيْرِ خَوْفٍ وَلَا سَفَرٍ " قَالَ مَالِكٌ : لَعَلَّهُ ك…

Ibn 'Abbas reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) observed in Medina seven (rak'ahs) and eight (rak'ahs), i. e. (be combined) the noon and afternoon prayers (eight rak'ahs) and the sunset and 'Isha' prayers (seven rak'ahs).
