حَدَّثَنِي خَلَفُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ الْقُرَشِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا بَكْرُ بْنُ مُضَرَ، عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ، عَنْ عِرَاكِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ـ رضى الله عنهما

أَنَّ الْقَمَرَ، انْشَقَّ فِي زَمَانِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم‏.

Narrated Ibn `Abbas:

The moon was split into two parts during the lifetime of the Prophet.

Explanation in Arabic

أيَّدَ اللهُ سُبحانَه وتعالَى نَبيَّه صلَّى اللهُ عليه وسلَّمَ بالمُعجِزاتِ الخَوارِقِ حتَّى يُثبِّتَ قَلْبَه، ويُثبِّتَ المؤمِنينَ على الدِّينِ الحقِّ.

وفي هذا الحَديثِ يَرْوي عبدُ اللهِ بنُ مَسعودٍ رَضيَ اللهُ عنه أنَّ القمَرَ انشَقَّ في عَهدِ النَّبيِّ صلَّى اللهُ عليه وسلَّمَ، فكان نِصفَينِ: نِصفًا مِن وَراءِ حِراءٍ، ونِصفًا أمامَه؛ ليَكونَ مُعجِزةً له صلَّى اللهُ عليه وسلَّمَ على صِدقِ نُبُوَّتِه؛ لأنَّ أهلَ مَكَّةَ سَأَلوا رَسولَ اللهِ صلَّى اللهُ عليه وسلَّمَ أنْ يُريَهم آيةً، فأَراهمُ انْشِقاقَ القمَرِ، كما في حَديثِ أنَسٍ عندَ البُخاريِّ، فلمَّا وقَعَ ذلك، قال صلَّى اللهُ عليه وسلَّمَ: «اشْهَدوا»، أي: انْظُروا ماذا حدَثَ؛ لأنَّها مُعجِزةٌ عَظيمةٌ لا يَكادُ يَعدِلُها شَيءٌ مِن آياتِ الأنْبياءِ عليهمُ السَّلامُ.

وهذه مِن أعظَمِ المُعجِزاتِ المادِّيَّةِ الكَونيَّةِ الَّتي وقَعَتْ للنَّبيِّ صلَّى اللهُ عليه وسلَّمَ بمكَّةَ قبْلَ الهِجرةِ، والَّتي أشارَ إليها القُرآنُ الكَريمُ في قَولِه تعالَى: {اقْتَرَبَتِ السَّاعَةُ وَانْشَقَّ الْقَمَرُ} [القمر: 1].

وفي الحَديثِ: عَلامةٌ مِن عَلاماتِ النُّبوَّةِ.

The moon was split ( into two pieces ) while we were with the Prophet (ﷺ) in Mina. He said, "Be witnesses." Then a Piece of the moon went towards the mountain.
