حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ، قَالَ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم

إِذَا قَامَ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ يَشُوصُ فَاهُ بِالسِّوَاكِ‏.‏

Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported:

When the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) got up at night, he would cleanse his mouth with Siwak (tooth-stick).

Explanation

The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) would often use the Siwāk and command the Muslims to use it. This practice was confirmed at certain times, like getting up during the night, as he (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) would brush and cleanse his mouth with the Siwāk.

  • The Siwāk is a stick cut from the Arak tree or other trees. It is used to clean the mouth and teeth, freshen the mouth, and remove bad odors.

Explanation in Arabic

كانَ النبيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم كثيرًا ما يَستاك ويأمر به، وهو يتأكد في بعض الأوقات، منها: الاستياكُ عند القيام من الليل، حيث كان صلى الله عليه وسلم يَدلُك وينقِّي فاه بالسواك.

  • تأكيد مشروعية السواك بعد نوم الليل، وذلك أنَّ النوم مُقتَضٍ لتَغَيُّر رائحة الفم، والسواك هو آلة تنظيفية.
  • تأكيد مشروعية السواك عند كل تَغَيُّرٍ كريهٍ للفم، أخذًا من المعنى السابق.
  • مشروعية النظافة على وجه العموم، وأنها من سنة النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، ومن الآداب السامية.
  • التسوُّك في الفم كلِّه يشمل: الأسنان، واللثة، واللسان.
  • السواك هو عُودٌ يُقطَع من شجرة الأراك أو غيرها، ويُستخدم في تنظيف الفم والأسنان، ويطيِّب الفم، ويُزيل الروائح الكريهة.
