Authentic hadith of Sahih al-Bukhari Sahih al-Bukhari 2076

Narrator:Jābir ibn ‘Abdullāh

حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو غَسَّانَ، مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُطَرِّفٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُنْكَدِرِ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ـ رضى الله عنهما ـ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ ‏"‏

رَحِمَ اللَّهُ رَجُلاً سَمْحًا إِذَا بَاعَ، وَإِذَا اشْتَرَى، وَإِذَا اقْتَضَى ‏"

Jābir (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said:

"May Allah have mercy on a man who is lenient when he sells, when he buys, and when he asks for repayment of the debt."

Explanation

The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) supplicates for Allah's mercy upon everyone who is lenient and generous in his sale transactions. He does not overprice the product and treats the buyer in a good manner. And he is lenient and generous when he buys something, and he does not undervalue the product. And he is lenient and generous when he asks for repayment of the debts owed to him. He does not make things hard for the poor and needy; rather, he asks them for repayment in a kind and gentle manner and gives respite to those unable to pay.

Lessons

  • One of the objectives of the Shariah is to maintain the means of good relations among people.
  • We are encouraged to adopt noble manners when we engage in buying, selling, and other dealings with one another.

Explanation in Arabic

دعا النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم بالرحمة لكل من كان:

سهلًا جَوَادًا سَخِيًّا في بيعِه، فلا يُشدِّد على المشتري في سعرها ويعامله بخُلُقٍ حَسَن.

سهلًا جوادًا سَخِيًّا إذا اشترى، فلا يَبْخَس ويُقَلِّل من قيمة البِضَاعَة.

سهلًا جوادًا سخيًا إذا طَالَبَ بقضاءِ الدُّيون التي له، فلا يُشدِّد على الفقير والمُحتاج، بل يُطالِبه برفق ولُطف، ويُنْظِر المُعسر.

  • مِن مَقاصد الشريعة الحِفاظ على ما يُصلِحُ العلاقاتِ بين الناس.
  • الترغيب في استعمال معالي الأخلاق في المعاملات بين الناس من البيع والشراء ونحو ذلك.

قَوْله : ( حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيّ بْن عَيَّاشٍ ) بِالتَّحْتَانِيَّةِ وَالْمُعْجَمَةِ. قَوْله : ( رَحِمَ اللَّهُ رَجُلًا ) يَحْتَمِل الدُّعَاء وَيَحْتَمِل الْخَبَرَ , وَبِالْأَوَّلِ جَزَمَ اِبْن حَبِيب الْمَالِكِيُّ وَابْن بَطَّال وَرَجَّحَهُ الدَّاوُدِيُّ , وَيُؤَيِّد الثَّانِيَ مَا رَوَاهُ التِّرْمِذِيُّ مِنْ طَرِيق زَيْد بْن عَطَاء بْن السَّائِب عَنْ اِبْن الْمُنْكَدِرِ فِي هَذَا الْحَدِيثِ بِلَفْظِ " غَفَرَ اللَّهُ لِرَجُلٍ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ كَانَ سَهْلًا إِذَا بَاعَ " الْحَدِيث , وَهَذَا يُشْعِرُ بِأَنَّهُ قَصَدَ رَجُلًا بِعَيْنِهِ فِي حَدِيث الْبَاب , قَالَ الْكَرْمَانِيُّ : ظَاهِرُهُ الْإِخْبَارُ لَكِنَّ قَرِينَةَ الِاسْتِقْبَالِ الْمُسْتَفَاد مِنْ " إِذَا " تَجْعَلهُ دُعَاءً وَتَقْدِيرُهُ ر…

Jabir reported God's Messenger as saying, “God show mercy to a man who is kindly when he sells, when he buys, and when he makes a claim!” Bukhari transmitted it.
