Narrator:Ibn ‘Abbās

حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ الْهَيْثَمِ، أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ، قَالَ عَمْرُو بْنُ دِينَارٍ قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ ـ رضى الله عنهما ـ

كَانَ ذُو الْمَجَازِ وَعُكَاظٌ مَتْجَرَ النَّاسِ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ، فَلَمَّا جَاءَ الإِسْلاَمُ كَأَنَّهُمْ كَرِهُوا ذَلِكَ حَتَّى نَزَلَتْ ‏‏{‏لَيْسَ عَلَيْكُمْ جُنَاحٌ أَنْ تَبْتَغُوا فَضْلاً مِنْ رَبِّكُمْ‏}‏ فِي مَوَاسِمِ الْحَجِّ‏.‏

Narrated Ibn ' `Abbas:

Dhul-Majaz and `Ukaz were the markets of the people during the Pre-Islamic period of ignorance. When the people embraced Islam, they disliked to do bargaining there till the following Holy Verses were revealed:-- There is no harm for you If you seek of the bounty Of your Lord (during Hajj by trading, etc.) (2.198)

قَوْله : ( قَالَ عَمْرو بْن دِينَار ) فِي رِوَايَة إِسْحَاق بْن رَاهْوَيْهِ فِي مُسْنَده عَنْ عِيسَى بْن يُونُس عَنْ اِبْن جُرَيْج أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرو بْن دِينَار. قَوْله : ( عَنْ اِبْن عَبَّاس ) هَذَا هُوَ الْمَحْفُوظ , وَوَقَعَ عِنْد الْإِسْمَاعِيلِيّ عَنْ الْمَنِيعِيّ عَنْ عُثْمَان بْن أَبِي شَيْبَة عَنْ يَحْيَى بْن أَبِي زَائِدَة عَنْ اِبْن جُرَيْجٍ عَنْ عَمْرو عَنْ اِبْن الزُّبَيْر , قَالَ الْإِسْمَاعِيلِيّ : كَذَا فِي كِتَابِي وَعَلَيْهِ صَحَّ. قُلْت : وَهُوَ وَهْم مِنْ بَعْض رُوَاته كَأَنَّهُ دَخَلَ عَلَيْهِ حَدِيث فِي حَدِيث , فَإِنَّ حَدِيث اِبْن الزُّبَيْر عِنْد اِبْن عُيَيْنَةَ وَابْن جُرَيْجٍ عَنْ عُبَيْد اللَّه بْن أَبِي يَزِيد عَنْهُ وَهُوَ أَخْصَر مِنْ سِيَاق اِبْن عَبَّاس , وَ…

‘Ukkāzh, Mijannah, and Dhū al-Majāz were markets in the pre-Islamic period of ignorance. They considered it a sin to trade during the seasons. So it was revealed: {There is no blame upon you for seeking bounty from your Lord.}

‘Ukkāzh, Mijannah, and Dhū al-Majāz were markets in the pre-Islamic period of ignorance. They considered it a sin to trade during the seasons. So, {There is no blame upon you for seeking bounty from your Lord} [Al-Baqarah: 198] was revealed concerning the Hajj seasons.
