Authentic hadith of Sahih al-Bukhari Sahih al-Bukhari 1069

Narrator:Ibn ‘Abbās

حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ، وَأَبُو النُّعْمَانِ، قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ـ رضى الله عنهما ـ قَالَ ‏{‏

ص‏}‏ لَيْسَ مِنْ عَزَائِمِ السُّجُودِ، وَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَسْجُدُ فِيهَا‏.‏

Ibn Abbās (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "The prostration of Sād is not a compulsory one but I saw the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) prostrating while reciting it."

Reported by Al-Bukhari (No. 1069, 3422), Abu Dawud (No. 1409) and Ahmad (No. 3214).

Explanation

The meaning of the Hadīth: "The prostration of Sād is not a compulsory one". It means that the prostration of reciting the Sūrah Sād is Sunnah and not obligatory, because no emphatic instruction has been reported from the Prophet concerning it. Rather, the wording narrated is in the form of a report, that Dawūd (peace be upon him) prostrated it as a repentance to Allah. And our Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) prostrated out of thankfulness; because Allah blessed Dawūd (peace be upon him) with forgiveness. There is another supporting evidence in Sunan An-Nasā'i in its favor, which is reported as the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Dawūd prostrated in this verse, out of repentance, and we prostrate it out of thankfulness to Allah."

Explanation in Arabic

معنى حديث: "ص ليس من عَزَائِمِ السُّجود" أن سجدة التلاوة التي في سورة ص سنة غير واجبة؛ لأنه لم يرد فيها أَمر على تأكيد فعلها، بل الوارد بصيغة الإخبار؛ بأنَّ داود -عليه الصلاة والسلام- فعلها توبة لله تعالى ، وسَجَدَها نبيُّنَا صلى الله عليه وسلم شكرا؛ لمَّا أنْعَم اللَّهُ على داودَ -عليه الصلاة والسلام- بالغُفْرَان، ويدل له ما رواه النسائي، أنَّه صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: (سجدها داود توبة، ونسْجُدها شكرًا).

قَوْله : ( وَقَدْ رَأَيْت رَسُول اللَّه صَلَّى اللَّه عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَسْجُد فِيهَا ) وَقَعَ فِي تَفْسِير ص عِنْد الْمُصَنِّف مِنْ طَرِيق مُجَاهِد قَالَ " سَأَلْت اِبْن عَبَّاس مِنْ أَيْنَ سَجَدْت فِي ص ؟ " وَلِابْنِ خُزَيْمَةَ مِنْ هَذَا الْوَجْه " مِنْ أَيْنَ أَخَذْت سَجْدَة ص " ثُمَّ اِتَّفَقَا فَقَالَ ( وَمِنْ ذُرِّيَّتِهِ دَاوُد وَسُلَيْمَان ) إِلَى قَوْله : ( فَبِهُدَاهُمْ اِقْتَدِهْ ) فَفِي هَذَا أَنَّهُ اِسْتَنْبَطَ مَشْرُوعِيَّة السُّجُود فِيهَا مِنْ الْآيَة , وَفِي الْأَوَّل أَنَّهُ أَخَذَهُ عَنْ النَّبِيّ صَلَّى اللَّه عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , وَلَا تَعَارُض بَيْنهمَا لِاحْتِمَالِ أَنْ يَكُون اِسْتَفَادَهُ مِنْ الطَّرِيقَيْنِ. وَقَدْ وَقَعَ فِي أَحَادِيث الْأَنْبِيَاء مِنْ طَرِيق…
