حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْفُرَاتِ أَبُو مَسْعُودٍ الرَّازِيُّ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم

يَقْرَأُ عَلَيْنَا الْقُرْآنَ فَإِذَا مَرَّ بِالسَّجْدَةِ كَبَّرَ وَسَجَدَ وَسَجَدْنَا ‏

Narrated Abdullah ibn Umar:

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to recite the Qur'an to us. When he came upon the verse containing prostration, he would utter the takbir (Allah is most great) and we would prostrate ourselves along with him.

The narrator 'Abd al-Razzaq said: Al-Thawri liked this tradition very much.

Abu Dawud said: This was liked by him for this contains the uttering of takbir.

Reported by Abu Dawud (No. 1413).

( إِذَا مَرَّ بِالسَّجْدَةِ كَبَّرَ وَسَجَدَ وَسَجَدْنَا ) : قَالَ الْخَطَّابِيُّ : فِيهِ مِنْ الْفِقْهِ أَنَّ الْمُسْتَمِع لِلْقُرْآنِ إِذَا قُرِئَ بِحَضْرَتِهِ السَّجْدَة سَجَدَ مَعَ الْقَارِئِ. وَقَالَ مَالِكٌ وَالشَّافِعِيُّ : إِذَا لَمْ يَكُنْ قَعَدَ لِاسْتِمَاعِ الْقُرْآن فَإِنْ شَاءَ سَجَدَ وَإِنْ شَاءَ لَمْ يَسْجُدْ. وَفِيهِ أَنَّ السُّنَّةَ أَنْ يُكَبِّرَ لِلسَّجْدَةِ وَعَلَى هَذَا مَذْهَبُ أَكْثَرِ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ وَكَذَلِكَ يُكَبِّرُ إِذَا رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ. وَكَانَ الشَّافِعِيُّ وَأَحْمَدُ يَقُولَانِ يَرْفَعُ يَدَيْهِ إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَسْجُد. وَعَنْ عَطَاءٍ وَابْنِ سِيرِينَ إِذَا رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ مِنْ السُّجُودِ سَلَّمَ , وَبِهِ قَالَ إِسْحَاقُ بْن رَاهْوَيْهِ , وَاحْتَجَّ لَهُم…

God’s Messenger used to recite the Qur'an to us, and when he came to a place where a prostration should be made he said “God is most great” and prostrated himself, and we prostrated ourselves along with him. Abu Dawud transmitted it.

When the Prophet (ﷺ) recited Surat As-Sajda and we were with him, he would prostrate and we also would prostrate with him and some of us (because of the heavy rush) would not find a place (for our foreheads) to prostrate on.
