Biography of Rashid Bin Khalaf Al-Qalib
Rashid Bin Khalaf Al-Qalib, a reciter who draws his success from his family
He is one of the admirers of the recitations of Sheikhs Saad ibn Said Al-Ghamdi and Ahmed Khalil Shaheen, by whom he has been influenced. His voice is powerful and his articulation of the letters is clear. He grew up in a home brimming with knowledge and scholars, and he led people in Tarawih prayers when he was still very young. He managed to combine academic learning at university with religious knowledge acquired from sheikhs, excelling in both and becoming one of the most prominent reciters at home and abroad. This is the reciter Rashid Bin Khalaf Al-Qalib, whose full name is Rashid ibn Khalaf ibn Abdullah Al-Qalib, born in late 1404 AH in Al-Aflaj Governorate, in the Riyadh region of Saudi Arabia.
In his youth, Rashid Al-Qalib grew up in a conservative and upright environment: his father and his six brothers were all imams and had memorized the Book of Allah, and they had a profound influence on him. After successfully completing his primary education, he enrolled in a Quran memorization school at the intermediate level, where he crowned his studies by memorizing the entire Holy Quran. He then moved on to the Scientific Institute in Riyadh for his secondary education, before continuing his university studies at the College of Sharia at Imam Muhammad ibn Saud Islamic University. He completed his academic path by earning a master’s degree in comparative jurisprudence from the Higher Judicial Institute.
Before that, alongside his secondary and university studies, Rashid Al-Qalib studied under a number of distinguished sheikhs and scholars in Saudi Arabia, including, among others, his two brothers Muflih and Masoud; his cousin Dhafer Al-Qalib, imam and khatib of the Umm Ibrahim Al-Dhiyab Mosque; and Sheikh Bashir ibn Muhammad Issa Taher, who granted him an ijazah in the Holy Quran.
After completing his university studies, Rashid Al-Qalib worked for two years as an adjunct Quran teacher at the College of Usul al-Din of the university from which he had graduated. He then turned to the imamate, leading Tarawih prayers at the mosque of Sheikh Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab, may Allah have mercy on him, in the Al-Aziziyah district. After his father’s death, he moved to the mosque his father had led and remained its imam for six years. He was then offered the imamate of Al-Khair Mosque in Ramadan 1429 AH, before moving in 1430 AH to the mosque of Sheikh Abdullah ibn Ibrahim ibn Rashid Al-Humaidhi in the Al-Sahafa district, where he still serves as imam and khatib to this day.
