Tafsir of verse 52
Al-Mukhtasar
The wife of the minister said that this disclosure was so that Joseph would know through her confession that it was she who had tried to seduce him and that he was truthful, and that she had not lied about him in his absence, as it had become clear to her from what had happened that Allah does not give success to those who lie and scheme.
That is because he [i.e., the chief] should know that I did not betray him in his absence, for Allah does not lead the guile of the betrayers to succeed.”
[Then Yûsuf (Joseph) said: "I asked for this enquiry] in order that he (Al-‘Azîz) may know that I betrayed him not in (his) absence". And, verily! Allâh guides not the plot of the betrayers.2
Notes
[2] (V.12:52).
a) Narrated Ibn ‘Umarرضي الله عنهما : The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said, "For every betrayer (perfidious person), a flag will be raised on the Day of Resurrection, and it will be announced (publicly): ‘This is the betrayal (perfidy) of so-and-so, the son of so-and-so.’ "
(Sahih Al-Bukhari, Vol.8, Hadith No.196)
b) See the footnote of (V.4:145).
(Then Joseph said: I asked for) this, that he (my lord) may know that I betrayed him not in secret, and that surely Allah guideth not the snare of the betrayers.
"This (say I), in order that He may know that I have never been false to him in his absence, and that Allah will never guide the snare of the false ones.
This is that he might know that I have not been unfaithful to him in secret and that Allah does not guide the device of the unfaithful.
That (is so); so that he may know I did not betray him in (his) absence, and that Allah does not guide the plotting of the treacherous.
