Tafsir of verse 17
Al-Mukhtasar
Those who have faith in Allah, and they are: the believers from this nation, the Jews, the Sabians (a group of followers of one of the prophets), the Christians, the Magians (fire-worshippers), the idolaters; Allah will judge between them on the Day of Judgment, then He will enter the believers amongst them into paradise and enter others into hellfire. Allah is a Witness to all the sayings and actions of His servants, with nothing being hidden from Him, and He shall reward them for these actions.
Indeed, those who believe, those who are Jews, the Sabians, the Christians, the Magians9 and those who associate partners with Allah – Allah will judge between them on the Day of Resurrection; Allah is Witness over all things.
Notes
[9] i.e., Zoroastrians; fire-worshippers.
Verily, those who believe (in Allâh and in His Messenger Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم), and those who are Jews, and the Sabians, and the Christians, and the Majûs, and those who worship others besides Allâh, truly, Allâh will judge between them on the Day of Resurrection. Verily! Allâh is over all things a Witness.3
Notes
[3] (V.22:17) See (V.2:62) and its footnotes for the explanation of this Verse.
Lo! those who believe (this revelation), and those who are Jews, and the Sabaeans and the Christians and the Magians and the idolaters - Lo! Allah will decide between them on the Day of Resurrection. Lo! Allah is Witness over all things.
Those who believe (in the Qur'an), those who follow the Jewish (scriptures), and the Sabians, Christians, Magians, and Polytheists,- Allah will judge between them on the Day of Judgment: for Allah is witness of all things.
Surely those who believe and those who are Jews and the Sabeans and the Christians and the Magians and those who associate (others with Allah)-- surely Allah will decide between them on the day of resurrection; surely Allah is a witness over all things.
Surely the ones who have believed, and the ones who have Judaized, and the SabiÉîn (The Sabaeans) and Nasara, (Christians) and the Majûs (The Magians) and the ones who have associated, (i.e. other gods with Allah) surely Allah will distinguish between them on the Day of the Resurrection; surely Allah is an Ever-present Witness over everything.
We do not abrogate a verse or cause it to be forgotten except that We bring forth [one] better than it or similar to it. Do you not know that Allāh is over all things competent?
For each [religious following] is a [prayer] direction toward which it faces. So race to [all that is] good. Wherever you may be, Allāh will bring you forth [for judgement] all together. Indeed, Allāh is over all things competent.
And to Allāh belongs the unseen [aspects] of the heavens and the earth. And the command for the Hour is not but as a glance of the eye or even nearer. Indeed, Allāh is over all things competent.
Say, [O Muḥammad], "Travel through the land and observe how He began creation. Then Allāh will produce the final creation [i.e., development]. Indeed Allāh, over all things, is competent."
