Meaning of the name Qutaiba
Qutayba is, according to lexicographers, the diminutive of qitb or qatab, the small saddle set on a camel’s hump; since qitb is sometimes feminine, its diminutive took the ending -a. It is an old Arabic name, made famous by Qutayba ibn Muslim, the Umayyad general who carried Islam into Central Asia, and by the scholar Ibn Qutayba. It is given in Syria, Iraq and the Gulf.
