Meaning of the name Nouf
Nawf (pronounced Nouf in the Gulf) comes from the verb nafa, yanufu, “to rise, to tower”: it is elevation, the highest point; lexicographers also give nawf for the camel’s hump, the highest part of the animal. The same root gives munif, “lofty, eminent”. The name, feminine, is a traditional one of Najd and the Gulf, widely borne in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.
