Anoud: meaning of the name
Girl Arabic origin al-ʿAnūd
“She who goes her own way”: the she-camel grazing apart
Meaning of the name Anoud
Al-ʿAnud is a name of Najd and the Gulf, almost always used with the article. The old dictionaries call ʿanud the she-camel that grazes apart from the herd (root ʿ-n-d, “to turn aside, to take another path”): the name evokes a woman who goes her own way, proud and independent. The meaning “brave, strong”, often given, is only an interpretation. The word shares its root with ʿanid, “obstinate”, but it is not the same word.
