Meaning of the name Nizar
Nizar is the name of Nizar ibn Maʿadd ibn ʿAdnan, ancestor of the northern Arabs, from whom descend the tribes of Mudar and Rabiʿa, and thus Quraysh. Genealogists connect the name with nazr, “a little, a small amount”: according to the report, his father named him so, judging the meal offered for his birth very modest. The name was made famous in the 20th century by the poet Nizar Qabbani.
