Meaning of the name Lia
Lia is a European name: in Italian and Portuguese it is the form of Leah (Hebrew Leʾa, Jacob’s first wife in the Bible, whose meaning is debated), and also a short form of names such as Rosalia, Amalia or Cecilia. It is now given in the Arab world as ليا. Old Arabic does have a word liyaʾ (لِياء), a very white seed of the Hijaz to which a woman’s fair complexion was compared, but the modern name does not come from it.
