Lana: meaning of the name
Girl Other origin Lānā
European name (Alana, Svetlana); in Arabic, linked to lāna, “to become gentle”
Meaning of the name Lana
Lana is first of all a European name: in English it is a short form of Alana, made popular by the actress Lana Turner, and in Russian or Croatian a short form of Svetlana (“the luminous one”). In the Arab world, where it has become very common (لانا), it is linked to lāna, “he became soft, gentle” (root l-y-n of gentleness, līn): a link by sound only, since lāna is a verb, not a noun. It should not be confused with lanā (لنا), “for us”.
