The verb aslama recurs often in the Quran: “When his Lord said to him: Submit (aslim), he said: I submit (aslamtu) to the Lord of the worlds” (2:131). Aslam is also an Arabian tribe that embraced Islam; the Prophet ﷺ said: “Aslam, may Allah grant it peace; Ghifar, may Allah forgive it” (al-Bukhari 3514).

Meaning of the name Aslam

Aslam is a comparative of the root s-l-m of peace and soundness: “the soundest, the safest”. The same form is also a verb, aslama, “he submitted (to Allah)”, the source of islam: Turkish families understand Eslem in this sense, a popular name for girls and boys.
