The Prophet ﷺ said: “The most beloved of your names to Allah are ʿAbd Allah and ʿAbd al-Rahman” (Muslim 2132), and scholars add to them all names formed on a name of Allah. The name al-Kabir occurs 6 times in the Quran; its page in the 99 Names section gives its meaning and verses.
ʿAbd al-Kabir joins ʿabd with al-Kabir, from the root k-b-r of greatness, that of the takbir (“Allahu akbar”): the One greater than anything that can be imagined. The Quran joins it to al-Mutaʿal, “the Most Exalted” (13:9). The name is common in Morocco as Abdelkebir.
Men are in charge of women by [right of] what Allāh has given one over the other and what they spend [for maintenance] from their wealth. So righteous women are devoutly obedient, guarding in [the husband's] absence what Allāh would have them guard. But those [wives] from whom you fear arrogance - [first] advise them; [then if they persist], forsake them in bed; and [finally], strike them [lightly]. But if they obey you [once more], seek no means against them. Indeed, Allāh is ever Exalted and Grand.
