عَبْد الْغَفَّار
Boy Arabic origin ʿAbd al-Ghaffār
Name of Allah“Servant of the Ever-Forgiving”
The Prophet ﷺ said: “The most beloved of your names to Allah are ʿAbd Allah and ʿAbd al-Rahman” (Muslim 2132), and scholars add to them all names formed on a name of Allah. The name al-Ghaffar occurs 5 times in the Quran; its page in the 99 Names section gives its meaning and verses.
ʿAbd al-Ghaffar joins ʿabd with al-Ghaffar, an intensive form of the root gh-f-r of forgiveness (ghafara, “to cover”): the One who forgives again and again and covers the faults of His servants. The Quran has Nuh say: “Ask forgiveness of your Lord, for He is Ever-Forgiving” (71:10). The name is mostly given in South Asia and the Middle East.
This name is built on a name of Allah found in the Quran; its verses are on the page of that name.
