حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّوْرَقِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا رِبْعِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْمَقْبُرِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏

"‏ رَغِمَ أَنْفُ رَجُلٍ ذُكِرْتُ عِنْدَهُ فَلَمْ يُصَلِّ عَلَىَّ وَرَغِمَ أَنْفُ رَجُلٍ دَخَلَ عَلَيْهِ رَمَضَانُ ثُمَّ انْسَلَخَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُغْفَرَ لَهُ وَرَغِمَ أَنْفُ رَجُلٍ أَدْرَكَ عِنْدَهُ أَبَوَاهُ الْكِبَرَ فَلَمْ يُدْخِلاَهُ الْجَنَّةَ ‏"

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said:

"May a man's nose be rubbed in dust who, when I am mentioned in his presence, does not invoke blessings upon me. And may a man's nose be rubbed in dust who witnesses the month of Ramadan, then it passes without him being forgiven. And may a man's nose be rubbed in dust who has both his parents reach old age with him, yet they do not cause him to enter Paradise."

Explanation

The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) supplicated against three types of people that their noses be stuck to dust, as a sign of humiliation, disgrace, and loss: First type: The one in whose presence the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) is mentioned, yet he does not invoke blessings upon him by saying: May Allah's peace and blessings be upon him and the like. Second: The one who witnesses the month of Ramadan, and then the month passes before he is forgiven, due to his negligence in performing acts of obedience. Third: The man whose parents reached old age with him, yet they were not a cause for him to enter Paradise due to his undutifulness and negligence in fulfilling their rights.

Lessons

  • As-Sindi said: In conclusion, each of these individuals had an opportunity, and if it were not for their negligence, they would have gained an abundant share of goodness. Since they fell short and missed out on that, they have indeed failed and lost.
  • Encouraging the act of invoking blessings upon the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) whenever his name is mentioned.
  • Encouraging diligence and industriousness in worship during the month of Ramadan.
  • Encouraging diligence in expressing dutifulness towards one's parents and honoring them, especially in old age.

Explanation in Arabic

دَعَا النبيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم على ثلاثة أصناف بإلصاق أُنُوْفِهِم بالتراب من الذُّلِّ والهوان والخسارة:

الصنف الأول: مَن ذُكِر عنده النبيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فلم يُصَلِّ عليه بقوله: صلى الله عليه وسلم أو نحوها.

الثاني: من أدرك شهر رمضان ثم انقضى الشهر قبل أن يُغفر له لتقصيره في فعل الطاعة.

الثالث: رجل أدرك أبويه عنده الكِبَرِ فلم يكونا سببًا في دخوله الجنة لعقوقه وتقصيره في حقِّهما.

  • قال السندي: والحاصل أن كل واحد من هؤلاء قد وجد ما لولا التقصير منه لنال به حظًا وافرًا من الخير، فحيث قصر حتى فات عنه ذلك فقد خاب وخسر.
  • الحث على الصلاة على النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم كلما ذكر اسمه.
  • الحث على الاجتهاد والتشمير للعبادة في شهر رمضان.
  • الحث على الاجتهاد في بر الوالدين وإكرامهما، خصوصًا عند الكبر.

قَوْلُهُ : ( أَخْبَرَنَا رِبْعِيُّ ) بِكَسْرِ الرَّاءِ الْمُهْمَلَةِ وَسُكُونِ الْمُوَحَّدَةِ وَكَسْرِ الْعَيْنِ الْمُهْمَلَةِ وَشِدَّةِ التَّحْتِيَّةِ ( بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ) بْنِ مِقْسَمٍ الْأَسَدِيُّ أَبُو الْحَسَنِ الْبَصْرِيُّ أَخُو إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ عُلَيَّةَ وَهُوَ أَصْغَرُ مِنْهُ ثِقَةٌ صَالِحٌ مِنْ التَّاسِعَةِ ( عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ ) الْقُرَشِيِّ الْمَدَنِيِّ. قَوْلُهُ : ( رَغِمَ أَنْفُ رَجُلٍ ) أَيْ لَصِقَ أَنْفُهُ بِالتُّرَابِ كِنَايَةً عَنْ حُصُولِ الذُّلِّ. قَالَ فِي النِّهَايَةِ : رَغَمَ يَرْغَمُ وَرَغِمَ يَرْغَمُ رَغْمًا وَرِغْمًا وَرُغْمًا وَأَرْغَمَ اللَّهُ أَنْفَهُ أَيْ أَلْصَقَهُ بِالرِّغَامِ وَهُوَ التُّرَابُ. هَذَا هُوَ الْأَصْلُ ثُمَّ اُسْتُعْمِلَ فِي…
