أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ بْنِ مُوسَى، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَتَخَتَّمُ بِخَاتَمٍ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ ثُمَّ طَرَحَهُ وَلَبِسَ خَاتَمًا مِنْ وَرِقٍ وَنُقِشَ عَلَيْهِ مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ ‏

"‏ لاَ يَنْبَغِي لأَحَدٍ أَنْ يَنْقُشَ عَلَى نَقْشِ خَاتَمِي هَذَا ‏"‏ ‏.‏ وَجَعَلَ فَصَّهُ فِي بَطْنِ كَفِّهِ

It was narrated that Ibn 'Umar said:

"The Prophet [SAW] wore a ring of gold, then he discarded it and wore a ring of silver on which were engraved (the words) 'Muhammad Rasul Allah.' Then he said: 'No one should copy this inscription of mine.' And he wore the stone (Fass) toward his palm."

"The Prophet [SAW] used to wear a ring of gold, then he discarded it, and put on a ring of silver on which was engraved (the words): 'Muhammad Rasul Allah.' He said: 'No one else should engrave his ring with an inscription like this ring of mine.' Then he put the stone toward the palm of his hand."

"‏ لاَ يَنْبَغِي لأَحَدٍ أَنْ يَنْقُشَ عَلَى نَقْشِ خَاتَمِي هَذَا ‏"‏ ‏.‏ ثُمَّ جَعَلَ فَصَّهُ فِي بَطْنِ كَفِّهِ ‏.‏

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) wanted to write to some persian rulers. He was told that they would not read a letter without a seal in the form of a silver ring on which he engraved "Muhammad the Messenger of Allah."

إِنَّهُمْ لاَ يَقْرَءُونَ كِتَابًا إِلاَّ بِخَاتَمٍ فَاتَّخَذَ خَاتَمًا مِنْ فِضَّةٍ وَنَقَشَ فِيهِ ‏"‏ مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏"

Ziyad b. Sa'd, Shu'aib and Ibn Musafir transmitted it from al-Zuhri. 'Ali said in their versions: "of silver".

رَأَى فِي يَدِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم خَاتَمًا مِنْ وَرِقٍ يَوْمًا وَاحِدًا فَصَنَعَ النَّاسُ فَلَبِسُوا وَطَرَحَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَطَرَحَ النَّاسُ ‏.‏

Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) had a silver ring made for himself and it was worn by him on his hand. Afterwards it was worn by Abu Bakr, and then by `Umar, and then by `Uthman till it fell in the Aris well. (On that ring) was engraved: 'Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah."

Authentic Sahih al-Bukhari 5874

The Prophet (ﷺ) got a ring made for himself and said, "I have got a ring made (for myself) and engraved a certain engraving on it so none of you should get such an engraving on his ring." I saw the glitter of the ring on his little finger.

إِنَّا اتَّخَذْنَا خَاتَمًا، وَنَقَشْنَا فِيهِ نَقْشًا، فَلاَ يَنْقُشْ عَلَيْهِ أَحَدٌ ‏"‏‏.‏ قَالَ فَإِنِّي لأَرَى بَرِيقَهُ فِي خِنْصَرِهِ

Authentic Sahih al-Bukhari 3106

That when Abu Bakr became the Caliph, he sent him to Bahrain and wrote this letter for him, and stamped it with the Ring of the Prophet. Three lines were engraved on the Ring, (the word) 'Muhammad' was in a line, 'Apostle' was in another line, and 'Allah' in a third.

وَكَانَ نَقْشُ الْخَاتَمِ ثَلاَثَةَ أَسْطُرٍ مُحَمَّدٌ سَطْرٌ، وَرَسُولُ سَطْرٌ، وَاللَّهِ سَطْرٌ‏.‏
