أَخْبَرَنِي إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ، عَنْ حَجَّاجِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ، قَالَ قَالَ ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ أَخْبَرَنِي عَطَاءٌ، عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ مَوْهَبٍ، أَنَّهُ أَخْبَرَهُ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ صَيْفِيٍّ، عَنْ حَكِيمِ بْنِ حِزَامٍ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏

"‏ لاَ تَبِعْ طَعَامًا حَتَّى تَشْتَرِيَهُ وَتَسْتَوْفِيَهُ ‏"

It was narrated that Hakim bin Hizam said:

"The Messenger of Allah said: "Do not sell food until you have bought it and taken possession of it."'

Reported by An-Nasa’i (No. 4601) and Ahmad (No. 14789).

Ibn ‘Umar said they used to buy grain in the upper part of the market and sell it in the same spot, but God’s Messenger forbade them to sell it there before removing it. Abu Dawud transmitted it. I have not found it in the two Sahihs.

وَعَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ: كَانُوا يَبْتَاعُونَ الطَّعَامَ فِي أَعلَى السُّوقِ فيبيعُونَه فِي مكانهِ فَنَهَاهُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ بَيْعِهِ فِي مَكَانِهِ حَتَّى يَنْقِلُوهُ. رَوَاهُ…

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) as saying: If anyone buys grain, he should not sell it until he measures it. Abu Bakr added in his version: I asked Ibn 'Abbas: Why ? He replied: Do you not see that they sell (grain) for gold, but the grain is still with the seller.

Hakim asked (the Prophet): Messenger of Allah, a man comes to me and wants me to sell him something which is not in my possession. Should I buy it for him from the market? He replied: Do not sell what you do not possess.
