Narrator:Rāfi‘ ibn Khadīj

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَبَايَةَ بْنِ رِفَاعَةَ، عَنْ رَافِعِ بْنِ خَدِيجٍ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ ‏

"‏ مَا أَنْهَرَ الدَّمَ وَذُكِرَ اسْمُ اللَّهِ فَكُلْ إِلاَّ بِسِنٍّ أَوْ ظُفْرٍ ‏"

It was narrated from Rafi bin Khadij that the Messenger of Allah said:

"If the blood is shed and the name of Allah is mentioned, then eat, unless (it is slaughtered) with teeth or nails."

Al-Sindi — Hashiyat al-Sindi on Sunan al-Nasa'i

قَوْله ( مَا أَنْهَرَ الدَّم ) الظَّاهِر أَنَّ الْمُرَاد بِكَلِمَةِ مَا هِيَ الْآلَة أَيْ كُلّ آلَة أَنْهَرَتْ الدَّم وَذُكِرَ اِسْم اللَّه عَلَى ذَبِيحَتهَا فَكُلُوا ذَبِيحَتهَا مَا لَمْ تَكُنْ تَلِك الْآلَة سِنًّا أَوْ ظُفْرًا وَجُمْلَة وَذُكِرَ اِسْم اللَّه يَحْتَمِل الْعَطْف وَالْحَالِيَّة. قَوْله ( إِلَّا بِسِنٍّ أَوْ ظُفْر ) اِسْتِثْنَاء مِمَّا يُفْهَم مِنْ الْكَلَام السَّابِق أَيْ فَاذْبَحْ بِكُلِّ آلَة تَنْهَرُ الدَّم إِلَّا بِسِنٍّ أَوْ ظُفْر فَلَا تَذْبَحْ بِهِمَا.…

"You may eat an animal which is slaughtered by any means which causes the blood to gush out as long as Allah's Name is mentioned over it, except for the tooth and the claw (not allowed to be used). The tooth is a bone and the claw is the knife of the Abyssinians (Ethiopians)." Agreed upon.

‘Adi b. Hatim told that he said, “Tell me, messenger of God; when one of us catches game and has no knife, may he cut its throat with a flint and a splinter of stick?” He replied, “Cause the blood to flow with whatever you take and mention God’s name.” Abu Dawud and Nasa’i transmitted it.
