أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الرَّبِيعِ، قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا حَمَّادٌ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَيُّوبُ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنْ أُمِّ عَطِيَّةَ، قَالَتْ

أَخَذَ عَلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم الْبَيْعَةَ عَلَى أَنْ لاَ نَنُوحَ ‏.‏

It was narrated that Umm 'Atiyyah said:

"The Messenger of Allah accepted our pledge that we would not wail (for the dead)."

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) never touched a woman with his hand. He would only take a vow from her and when he had taken the (verbal) vow, he would say: You may go. I have accepted your fealty.

مَا مَسَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم بِيَدِهِ امْرَأَةً قَطُّ إِلاَّ أَنْ يَأْخُذَ عَلَيْهَا فَإِذَا أَخَذَ عَلَيْهَا فَأَعْطَتْهُ قَالَ ‏"‏ اذْهَبِي فَقَدْ بَايَعْتُكِ ‏"

Authentic Sahih Muslim 936b

Umm 'Atiyya reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) took pledge from us (including this promise) that we would not lament. Only five amongst us fulfilled the promise, and one of them (who fulfilled the promise) was Umm Sulaim.
