أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ مَسْعَدَةَ، عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، قَالَ رَأَى النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم رَجُلاً يُهَادَى بَيْنَ رَجُلَيْنِ فَقَالَ ‏"‏ مَا هَذَا ‏"‏ ‏.‏ قَالُوا نَذَرَ أَنْ يَمْشِيَ إِلَى بَيْتِ اللَّهِ ‏.‏ قَالَ ‏

"‏ إِنَّ اللَّهَ غَنِيٌّ عَنْ تَعْذِيبِ هَذَا نَفْسَهُ مُرْهُ فَلْيَرْكَبْ ‏"

It was narrated that Anas said:

"The Prophet saw a man being supported by two others and said: 'What is this?' They said: 'He vowed to walk to the House of Allah.' He said: 'Allah has no need for this man to torture himself. Tell him to ride.'"

The Prophet (ﷺ) saw an old man walking, supported by his two sons, and asked about him. The people informed him that he had vowed to go on foot (to the Ka`ba). He said, "Allah is not in need of this old man's torturing himself," and ordered him to ride.

إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَنْ تَعْذِيبِ هَذَا نَفْسَهُ لَغَنِيٌّ ‏"‏‏.‏ وَأَمَرَهُ أَنْ يَرْكَبَ‏.‏

What is the matter with him? They said: He had taken the vow to walk (on foot to the Ka'ba). Thereupon he (Allah's Apoitle) said: Allah is indifferent to his inflicting upon himself chastisement, and he commanded him to ride.
