أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ، ح وَأَخْبَرَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مِقْسَمٍ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ مَرَّتْ بِنَا جَنَازَةٌ فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم وَقُمْنَا مَعَهُ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّمَا هِيَ جَنَازَةُ يَهُودِيَّةٍ ‏.‏ فَقَالَ ‏

"‏ إِنَّ لِلْمَوْتِ فَزَعًا فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمُ الْجَنَازَةَ فَقُومُوا ‏"

It was narrated that Jabir bin 'Abdullah said:

"A funeral passed by us and the Messenger of Allah stood up and we stood with him. I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, it is a Jewish funeral.' He said: 'Death is something terrifying, so if you see a funeral, stand up,"' This is the wording of Khalid.

Al-Sindi — Hashiyat al-Sindi on Sunan al-Nasa'i

قَوْله ( إِنَّ لِلْمَوْتِ فَزَعًا ) أَيْ فَلَا يَنْبَغِي الِاسْتِمْرَار عَلَى الْغَفْلَة عَلَى رُؤْيَة الْمَيِّت فَالْقِيَام لِتَرْكِ الْغَفْلَةِ وَالتَّشْمِيرِ لِلْجِدِّ وَالِاجْتِهَاد فِي الْخَيْرِ وَفِي بَعْض النُّسَخِ أَنَّ الْمَوْت فَزَعٌ أَيْ ذُو فَزَعٍ أَوْ هُوَ مِنْ بَاب الْمُبَالَغَة وَمَعْنَى قَوْله فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمْ الْجَنَازَة فَقُومُوا أَيْ تَعْظِيمًا لِهَوْلِ الْمَوْتِ وَفَزَعِهِ لَا تَعْظِيمًا لِلْمَيِّتِ فَلَا يَخْتَصُّ الْقِيَامُ بِمَيِّتٍ دُونَ مَيِّتٍ.…

"When any one of you sees a funeral and is not walking with it, let him stand up until it has passed him, or until (the body) is placed (in the grave) before if passes him."

"‏ إِذَا رَأَى أَحَدُكُمُ الْجَنَازَةَ فَلَمْ يَكُنْ مَاشِيًا مَعَهَا فَلْيَقُمْ حَتَّى تُخَلِّفَهُ أَوْ تُوضَعَ مِنْ قَبْلِ أَنْ تُخَلِّفَهُ ‏"
