Narrator:Anas ibn Mālik

أَخْبَرَنَا سُوَيْدُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ، قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ، عَنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، - هُوَ السَّلَمِيُّ - قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي غَالِبٌ الْقَطَّانُ، عَنْ بَكْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْمُزَنِيِّ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، قَالَ كُنَّا إِذَا صَلَّيْنَا خَلْفَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم بِالظَّهَائِرِ

سَجَدْنَا عَلَى ثِيَابِنَا اتِّقَاءَ الْحَرِّ ‏.‏

It was narrated that Anas said:

"When he prayed Zuhr behind the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) we would prostrate on our garments because of the heat."

Al-Sindi — Hashiyat al-Sindi on Sunan al-Nasa'i

قَوْله ( بِالظَّهَائِرِ ) جَمْع ظَهِيرَة وَهِيَ شِدَّة الْحَرّ نِصْف النَّهَار ( سَجَدْنَا عَلَى ثِيَابنَا ) الظَّاهِر أَنَّهَا الثِّيَاب الَّتِي هُمْ لَابِسُوهَا ضَرُورَة أَنَّ الثِّيَاب فِي ذَلِكَ الْوَقْت قَلِيلَة فَمِنْ أَيْنَ لَهُمْ ثِيَاب فَاضِلَة فَهَذَا يَدُلّ عَلَى جَوَاز أَنْ يَسْجُد الْمُصَلِّي عَلَى ثَوْب هُوَ لَابِسُهُ كَمَا عَلَيْهِ الْجُمْهُور.…

Anas said, “When we prayed behind the Prophet at midday in summer we prostrated ourselves on our clothing to protect ourselves from the heat.” (Bukhari and Muslim, the wording being Bukhari’s.)
