حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى، عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ الْمَكِّيِّ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم نَهَى عَنْ أَكْلِ لُحُومِ الضَّحَايَا بَعْدَ ثَلاَثَةِ أَيَّامٍ ثُمَّ قَالَ بَعْدُ ‏

"‏ كُلُوا وَتَصَدَّقُوا وَتَزَوَّدُوا وَادَّخِرُوا ‏"

Yahya related to me from Malik from Abu'z-Zubayr al-Makki from Jabir ibn Abdullah that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, forbade that the meat from sacrificial animals be eaten after three days. Then later he said, "Eat, give sadaqa, provide for yourselves and store up."

( ش ) : قَوْلُهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَهَى عَنْ أَكْلِ لُحُومِ الضَّحَايَا بَعْدَ ثَلَاثٍ يُرِيدُ أَنَّهُ نَهَى أَنْ يَأْكُلَ مِنْهَا ذَابِحُهَا وَالْمُضَحِّي بِهَا بَعْدَ ثَلَاثَةِ أَيَّامٍ وَهِيَ أَيَّامُ الذَّبْحِ لِأَنَّهُ لَمَّا أَبَاحَ الذَّبْحَ فِي الثَّلَاثَةِ الْأَيَّامِ أَبَاحَ الْأَكْلَ فِيهَا مِنْ الْأُضْحِيَّةِ وَقَصَرَ إبَاحَةَ الْأَكْلِ عَلَيْهَا لِيَتَمَكَّنَ الْمُضَحِّي بِأَنْ يُؤَخِّرَ الذَّبْحَ إِلَى آخِرِهَا وَلَا يَتَعَذَّرُ عَلَيْهِ الْأَكْلُ مِنْهَا وَيَحْتَمِلُ أَنْ يُرِيدَ إبَاحَةَ الْأَكْلِ بَعْدَ ثَلَاثَةِ أَيَّامٍ مِنْ وَقْتِ ذَبْحِ أُضْحِيَّتِهِ وَإِنْ ضَحَّى فِي آخِرِ أَيَّامِ الذَّبْحِ فَأُبِيحَ لَهُ الْأَكْلُ مِنْهَا ثَلَاثَ…

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) as saying: I forbade you to visit graves, but you may now visit them, for in visiting them there is a reminder (of death).
