Musnad Ahmad 3980

Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "Nobody has the right to be better than (Jonah) bin Matta."

مَا يَنْبَغِي لأَحَدٍ أَنْ يَكُونَ خَيْرًا مِنِ ابْنِ مَتَّى ‏"

Narrated by Abdullah ibn Mas‘ūd

It is not fitting for a servent to say that I (The Prophet) is better than Jonah son of Matta.

مَا يَنْبَغِي لِعَبْدٍ أَنْ يَقُولَ إِنِّي خَيْرٌ مِنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ مَتَّى ‏"

It is not proper for a servant of Allah to say: I am better than Yūnus ibn Matta

Ibn ‘Abbās (may Allah be please with him) reported: The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is not proper for a servant of Allah to say: “I am better than Yūnus ibn Matta." And he linked him to his father.

لاَ يَنْبَغِي لِعَبْدٍ أَنْ يَقُولَ أَنَا خَيْرٌ مِنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ مَتَّى ‏"

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Whoever says that I am better than Jonah bin Matta, is a liar."

مَنْ قَالَ أَنَا خَيْرٌ مِنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ مَتَّى فَقَدْ كَذَبَ ‏"

Narrated by Abu Hurayrah + 5 other versions

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "None has the right to say that I am better than Jonah bin Matta."

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "None of you should say that I am better than Yunus (i.e. Jonah)." Musadded added, "Jonah bin Matta."

لاَ يَقُولَنَّ أَحَدُكُمْ إِنِّي خَيْرٌ مِنْ يُونُسَ ‏"‏‏.‏ زَادَ مُسَدَّدٌ ‏"‏ يُونُسَ بْنِ مَتَّى ‏"

Narrated by Abdullah ibn Mas‘ūd + 1 other version

It is not meet for a servant of Mine that he should say: I am better than Yunus b. Matta (peace be upon him).

لِعَبْدِي - أَنْ يَقُولَ أَنَا خَيْرٌ مِنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ مَتَّى عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ
