حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، وَنَصْرُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، وَابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ، قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي النَّضْرِ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم

إِذَا صَلَّى رَكْعَتَىِ الْفَجْرِ فَإِنْ كُنْتُ مُسْتَيْقِظَةً حَدَّثَنِي وَإِلاَّ اضْطَجَعَ ‏

'A'isha reported:

When the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) had prayed the two rak'ahs (Sunan) of the dawn prayer, he would talk to me if I was awake, otherwise he would lie down.

Reported by Muslim (No. 743a), Al-Bukhari (No. 1161) and Abu Dawud (No. 1263).

قَوْلهَا : ( كَانَ رَسُول اللَّه صَلَّى اللَّه عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا صَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْ الْفَجْر , فَإِنْ كُنْت مُسْتَيْقِظَة حَدَّثَنِي وَإِلَّا اِضْطَجَعَ ) فِيهِ : دَلِيل عَلَى إِبَاحَة الْكَلَام بَعْد سُنَّة الْفَجْر , وَهُوَ مَذْهَبنَا وَمَذْهَب مَالِك وَالْجُمْهُور. وَقَالَ الْقَاضِي : وَكَرِهَهُ الْكُوفِيُّونَ , وَرُوِيَ عَنْ اِبْن مَسْعُود وَبَعْض السَّلَف ; لِأَنَّهُ وَقْت اِسْتِغْفَار , وَالصَّوَاب : الْإِبَاحَة لِفِعْلِ النَّبِيّ صَلَّى اللَّه عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَكَوْنه وَقْت اِسْتِحْبَاب الِاسْتِغْفَار لَا يَمْنَع مِنْ الْكَلَام…

After offering the Sunna of the Fajr prayer, the Prophet (ﷺ) used to talk to me, if I happen to be awake; otherwise he would lie down till the Iqama call was proclaimed (for the Fajr prayer).
