Narrator:Abu Sa‘īd al-Khudri

حَدَّثَنَا نَصْرُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْجَهْضَمِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ الْمُفَضَّلِ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ، بْنُ حُجْرٍ السَّعْدِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ، - يَعْنِي ابْنَ عُلَيَّةَ - كِلاَهُمَا عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ، عَنْ أَبِي نَضْرَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏"‏

مِنْ خُلَفَائِكُمْ خَلِيفَةٌ يَحْثُو الْمَالَ حَثْيًا لاَ يَعُدُّهُ عَدَدًا ‏"

Abu Sa'id reported that Allah's Messenger (may peace he upon him) I said:

There would be amongst your caliphs a caliph who would give handfuls of wealth to the people, but would not count it. In the narration transmitted on the authority of Ibn Hujr, there is a slight variation of wording.

An-Nawawi — Sharh Sahih Muslim

قَوْله صَلَّى اللَّه عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : ( يَكُون فِي آخِر أُمَّتِي خَلِيفَة يَحْثِي الْمَال حَثْيًا. وَلَا يَعُدّهُ عَدَدًا ) وَفِي رِوَايَة ( يَحْثُو الْمَال حَثْيًا ) قَالَ أَهْل اللُّغَة : يُقَال : حَيْثُ أَحْثِي حَثْيًا , وَحَثُوث أَحْثُو حَثْوًا , لُغَتَانِ , وَقَدْ جَاءَتْ اللُّغَتَانِ فِي هَذَا الْحَدِيث , وَجَاءَ مَصْدَر الثَّانِيَة عَلَى فِعْل الْأُولَى , وَهُوَ جَائِز مِنْ بَاب قَوْله تَعَالَى : { وَاَللَّه أَنْبَتَكُمْ مِنْ الْأَرْض نَبَاتًا } وَالْحَثْو هُوَ الْحَفْن بِالْيَدَيْنِ , وَهَذَا الْحَثْو الَّذِي يَفْعَلهُ هَذَا الْخَلِيفَة يَكُون لِكَثْرَةِ الْأَمْوَال وَالْغَنَائِم وَالْفُتُوحَات مَعَ سَخَاء نَفْسه.…
